Balfolk Workshops
Looking for engaging Balfolk workshops for your event? We offer sessions for all levels, from beginners learning the basics to experienced dancers refining their technique or exploring new styles. Whether you're hosting a folk dance festival, a Balfolk weekend, or a fun taster session, we’ve got you covered.
Introduction to Balfolk – A beginner-friendly workshop covering popular dances from Belgium and surrounding countries. We tailor the dances and workshop length to your needs, typically including jig (Chapelloise, AAP, 't Smidje), tovercirkel, Scottish, mazurka, polka, bourrée à 2 temps, an dro, hanter dro, and waltz. We also cover dance etiquette, mutual respect, and space management.
Intermediate Balfolk – For those familiar with the basics, we offer workshops diving deeper into popular Balfolk dances, refining technique, musicality, and variations. We also explore the origins of these dances and introduce less common ones you might encounter at a ball.
Rare (Bal)folk Dances – Our teachers bring back diverse dances from their travels across Europe. With intensive classes and exchanges, they’ve learned folk dances from the north, east, and south of Europe. Workshops from this category could include different Swedish Polskas, Balkan dances, and styles from Estonia, Belarus, Finland, Sweden, Turkey, Poland, France, Spain, Czech Republic and Italy. For example, we offer ‘A trip through Europe, learning dances along the way.’ We tailor these workshops to your audience—reach out, and let’s figure it out together.
Specialized Workshops – Tailored sessions focusing on specific Balfolk dances, such as Polska, irregular waltzes (in 5, 8, or 11-time), polka, and bourrée choreographies.
Thematic workshops - We also offer thematic workshops on dance skills like: lifts and dips, consent and intimacy in dance, and using feedback to grow as a dancer. More on these workshops can be found in the section of 'Thematic Workshops'.
